Joel Gregory Prize for Outstanding Scholarship
The Joel Gregory Prize honors the best book in African Studies published in the humanities and social sciences. This prestigious award encourages innovation and excellence in research.
Eligibility: Be a Canadian, a landed immigrant, or an African who has completed a PhD program in Canada or who has worked in a Canadian organization devoted to the promotion of knowledge of Africa.
Nomination period: July 1, 2023 - January 31, 2024.
Prize value: $1,000 for the winning book.
Recognizing Excellence: The Fraser Taylor Prize for Graduate Research
The Fraser Taylor Prize celebrates outstanding graduate student research presented at the CAAS conference. This prestigious award not only honors academic excellence but also encourages innovative scholarship in African Studies.
Eligibility Criteria
Papers must be unpublished and follow the CJAS style guidelines.
Submission Process
Submit your paper by January 31, 2025, for consideration.

Lifetime Achievement Award Overview
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes distinguished scholars who have made profound contributions to African Studies and the Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS). Nominees are typically retired or nearing retirement, showcasing a legacy of scholarship and engagement with CAAS. This prestigious award honors those whose work has significantly impacted the field and the association.

Recognizing Exceptional Contributions to CAAS
The CAAS Award for Meritorious Service honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the association. This award is open to anyone who has significantly supported CAAS's mission and activities.
Eligibility Criteria
Nominees must have a history of long-term service to CAAS.
Nomination Process
Submit a two-page summary and two reference letters.
